Report: Sean Miller interested in Pitt job, has discussed it with AD
With reports swirling that Dan Hurley could either take the UConn job or remain at Rhode Island for at least another season, officials at Pittsburgh could have their eyes on a much bigger name to fill their head coaching vacancy.
Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Arizona coach Sean Miller has discussed the Panthers job with Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke. Miller is said to have interest in the job and obviously has a terrific track record, but his current program has been linked to the FBI’s ongoing investigation into corruption across college basketball.
Emanuel Richardson, who worked as an assistant under Miller for 10 years, was arrested back in September and charged with bribery and fraud in connection with the FBI’s probe. Then last month, ESPN reported that Miller was caught on a wiretap discussing paying a top recruit to commit to the University of Arizona. Miller has vehemently denied the allegations and Arizona has stood behind him, and there have since been some major holes poked in ESPN’s report.
Miller’s ninth season with the Wildcats just ended with his No. 4 seed team being blown out by No. 13 seed Buffalo in the first round. The 49-year-old has an overall record of 247-74 at Arizona and has won five Pac-12 championships and made seven NCAA Tournaments. Miller played point guard for Pitt from 1987-1992.
UPDATE: Miller released a statement saying he is not a candidate for the Pitt job.
