Top high schooler Jalen Green to forgo college, enter NBA G League pathway

Jalen Green, the top basketball player in the 2020 high school class, is leaving a lot of college programs disappointed.

Green has teased a big announcement for 1 p.m. EST on Thursday, and ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reports that the five-star combo guard will be revealing his plans to forgo college and enter the NBA G League’s professional pathway program.

The G League pathway program was launched in October 2018 and pays prospects $125,000 as an alternative to attending college. However, Givony was told by sources that Green will be joining an “enhanced version” of the program.

Green was believed to have narrowed his choice down to Auburn and Memphis before deciding to turn pro. The Fresno, Calif., native is viewed by many as the favorite to be the top overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

He is expected to make around $500,000 and play for a team in Los Angeles.
