UMBC honored by county, Orioles for upset win
UMBC’s men’s basketball team is being honored in Baltimore for their history-making performance during this year’s NCAA Tournament.
The Retrievers became the first No. 16 seed to take down a No. 1 seed in the men’s tournament when they defeated Virginia during this year’s first round. Now, the team is beginning to receive recognition back home for their efforts.
On Tuesday, Baltimore County executive Kevin Kamenetz declared March 27, 2018 “UMBC Men’s Basketball Making History Day” during a ceremony at the university.

UMBC captured the hearts of America during this year’s NCAA Tournament, and it wasn’t just because of what took place on the basketball court. The team’s Twitter account gained over 100,000 followers thanks to several gems sent out during the win over Virginia. The men’s basketball team from UMBC deserves all of the attention it is receiving.
