Very few college football games rival the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn. It divides the state and, in some cases, households. In the case one Crimson Tide fan, it appears the annual meeting between the two schools was extremely important to one member of their family.

As WTVY’s Taylor Tannebaum shared, what you see above are ashes that were dumped onto the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium during Saturday’s game. They are the remains of an Alabama fan’s grandfather.

After trailing 26-21 at halftime, Alabama took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter and added three touchdowns over the final 15 minutes to come away with a 55-44 victory. The fan who sprinkled the ashes left happy with both the win and knowing his grandfather’s final resting place is the home of Alabama Crimson Tide football.
