Alan Moore Makes Faulkner University Football Team at Age 61
Just when we finish telling you about a female kicker who is trying to make the Virginia Tech football team, we catch wind of another unique demographic with football on the brain. Alan Moore, a 61 year old man and Vietnam veteran, has tried out for and made the Faulkner University football squad as a place kicker.
In the 1960s, Moore was only able to play his freshman year of football before heading off to fight in the Vietnam War for 11 months. A season ago, he strapped on the pads for Holmes Community College after a recommendation from his aunt secured him a chance to try out. Moore even got an opportunity to appear in a game against the college he played for in the 1960s, Jones County Junior College.
It remains to be seen how effective Moore can be, but it obviously says something about his physical condition that he was able to even make the team at his age. When I’m 61 years old I hope I can eat food that hasn’t been pureed in a blender, let alone kick a football for a college team.
