Auburn returns missed field goal for touchdown to beat Alabama (Video)

No. 4 Auburn defeated No. 1 Alabama on Saturday in a game that featured one of the most incredible endings in college football history. With the game tied 28-28 and 0:01 remaining, Alabama attempted a 57-yard field goal that would have won the game in regulation. The kick came up short and was returned for a touchdown.

Auburn defensive back Chris Davis caught the field goal attempt several yards deep in the end zone and took off up the left sideline. The most amazing part about the play was that it seemed like Nick Saban didn’t even tell his players to be prepared for the possibility of a return. Davis got one or two good blocks and had nothing but green in front of him after that.

As you might expect, Alabama fans were left in disbelief as their chances of a third-straight national championship all but evaporated on such an improbable play.

Auburn will face the winner of the South Carolina-Missouri game in the SEC Championship and now has a chance to earn a spot in the BCS National Championship Game. Saban will undoubtedly second guess his decision to attempt such a long field goal rather than playing it safe and heading to overtime.
