Baker Mayfield takes note of talk show host’s criticism
Baker Mayfield very clearly carries a big chip on his shoulder and looks for motivation from any source possible. Often that comes from slights by media members.
On Thursday, the Oklahoma quarterback responded to former ESPN NFL analyst Mark Schlereth’s criticism of him.
Schlereth, who now is a radio host for 104.3 The Fan in Denver, was critical of Mayfield and suggested the Sooners quarterback’s stats were inflated.
One Twitter user contested that point and got into it with Schlereth. Here’s what the fan said:
@markschlereth Baker Mayfield doesn’t throw 14 bubble screens a game. Show me 1 game where that happened. You make yourself look dumb by saying such things. Do your homework brother or find a different profession.

And here’s what Schlereth said in response:
Great point playing in the big 12 is identical to playing in the NFL I mean look at all those big 12 QB’s tearing it up in the NFL. I stand corrected he is already an elite NFL QB. My mistake. https://t.co/KJd4OdKOOJ

Based on pass charts Approximately 103 of his 262 completions are 5 yards or less and approximately 63 completions and behind the LOS. I was using the term bubble screen to emphasize the college system and the inflated com % numbers. Ok 8 slants and 6 bubble screens. Happy? https://t.co/NE26ppMcZk

If you throw a slant or bubble screen and the receiver takes it 70 yards for a TD your 1/1/70yds. What’s your yard per throw average? Quit spitting Stats in my eyes I don’t care. We will see how it plays out. https://t.co/SZCBkRz89H

The Heisman? Please that’s a garbage award. Who was the last Heisman QB to be worth a in the NFL? Get lost OU fan boy. https://t.co/Lu5iEvnvj5

Apparently Schlereth’s remark about the Heisman Trophy being a “garbage award” got Mayfield’s attention. The Oklahoma QB responded to Schlereth on Twitter and made it clear he’s taking note of what’s being said. He also asked that he be tagged in future criticisms so he can be aware of it.
You got it big fella! At least tag me in all your stuff.

This isn’t the first time Mayfield has responded to a critic. He had a similar response to Colin Cowherd a few weeks ago.
