Report: Bo Pelini is ‘strong candidate’ for LSU defensive coordinator job

Bo Pelini may be on his way back to prominence in a power conference.

The former Nebraska coach is a “strong candidate” to take the LSU defensive coordinator job, according to Scott Roussel of Football Scoop.

This would be a homecoming of sorts for Pelini. Prior to landing the Nebraska job, Pelini served as LSU’s defensive coordinator under Les Miles from 2005 to 2007. He is currently the head coach at FCS Youngstown State, where he is 33-28 in five seasons. Pelini would reportedly want to receive assurances that his brother Carl would take over at Youngstown State if he were to leave.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron has also spoken to former Dallas Cowboys passing game coordinator Kris Richard about the position.

These coaches are vying to replace Dave Aranda, who left to become head coach at Baylor. Pelini would be a departure from Aranda’s and Orgeron’s styles, as he’s a lot more vocal and aggressive on the sidelines, but he knows the school and has a proven track record.
