Leinart told Steve Wiltfong of On3 that he was won over by coach Rhett Lashlee and the program’s culture.
“Just the culture with what Coach Lashlee is building,” Leinart said. “I love the staff and everyone around the program. It feels like a family.”
Leinart also received interest from the likes of Pittsburgh, UNLV, San Jose State, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Duke. SMU was one of a few schools that had been recruiting him since he was in middle school.
Leinart is the No. 81 quarterback in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports’ rankings. His father Matt won the 2004 Heisman Trophy and two national titles at USC.
