Dan Orlovsky thinks that he can read the tea leaves when it comes to the Sanders family.
The ex-NFL quarterback-turned-ESPN host Orlovsky made a big claim this week about Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and Sanders’ son, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Orlovsky reacted to a mock draft by The 33rd Team that had Shedeur going No. 2 overall to the Cleveland Browns and said that there was no way Deion would let Shedeur go to Cleveland or to Carolina for that matter.
“There is a 0% chance Deion let’s [sic] Shedeur get drafted by Cleveland,” Orlovsky wrote on X. “Cleveland/Carolina will not happen.”

The 22-year-old Shedeur is putting together an excellent 2024 season (2,268 passing yards with 19 touchdowns to just six interceptions through seven games) and is thus putting himself in a position to go at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Browns (who have battled horrific play from starter Deshaun Watson followed by a season-ending injury to Watson) and the Panthers (whose Bryce Young project has all but failed) are the two most quarterback-needy teams in that range.
Though Deion may not ultimately have a true say in where his son ends up, he is trying his absolute best to make his voice heard in that regard. Earlier this year, Deion said that he was looking for Shedeur to end up somewhere with warm weather. He got even more specific earlier this month by zeroing in on a particular NFL team that he wants Shedeur to go to.
Of course, Cleveland, Carolina, and any other interested suitor can always disregard Deion’s wishes and draft Shedeur anyway. But Orlovsky is among those who believe Deion will fight like heck to prevent that from happening. After all, Deion did once state that he would pull an Eli Manning if Shedeur ends up on a less desirable team.
