Jeff Driskel transferring to Louisiana Tech

Jeff Driskel

Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel is reportedly moving on to a new school.

On Sunday, JC Shurburtt of 247Sports.com reported that Driskel has informed other interested schools that he will be transferring to Louisiana Tech. Driskel, the No. 1 quarterback prospect coming out of high school back in 2011, lost his job to freshman quarterback Treon Harris this season.

Driskel has one year of eligibility remaining. Since new Florida head coach Jim McElwain has granted him a release from his scholarship, he will be eligible to play at Louisiana Tech right away.

Louisiana Tech played for the Conference USA championship this season and is looking for someone to replace Cody Sokol at starting quarterback. Sokol threw for 3,436 yard and 30 touchdowns during his senior season.

While Driskel actually played decent in relief of an injured Harris in the Birmingham Bowl on Saturday, it became obvious that he had no future at Florida when he struggled earlier this season. Everyone from this University of Florida legend to one of Driskel’s own teammates called for him to be benched. A fresh start could do him a lot of good.
