Missouri DE Tre Williams arrested on suspicion of domestic assault
Missouri is preparing to take on Oklahoma State in the Liberty Bowl on New Year’s Eve, but they may end up being without sophomore defensive end Tre Williams after he was arrested over the weekend.
Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Williams was arrested on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault on Sunday morning. Columbia Police Department spokesman Jeff Pitts said the arrest came after officers responded to a report of a verbal assault turning physical at around 1:45 a.m. The victim said she was driving when Williams became physically aggressive with her, and the police report stated that physical evidence was consistent with the description the woman gave of what happened.
Missouri coach Barry Odom said in a statement Monday that the team and university are aware of the arrest and have suspended Williams.
“We were made aware of the situation yesterday, and Tre was immediately suspended indefinitely from all team activities,” Odom said. “We will provide an update if his status changes.”
Williams posted bond of $4,500 and was released on Sunday. The redshirt sophomore started six games for the Tigers this season and recorded 2.5 sacks and 20 total tackles. He also has five tackles for loss.
