Pete Golding knows just how much Ole Miss needed a win Saturday with former head coach Lane Kiffin back in town.
Kiffin was public enemy No. 1 as his LSU squad took on Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss. He felt the animosity from the moment he got off the bus and took his first steps at his old stomping grounds.
The Rebels raced out to a 17-0 lead against their ex-coach and held on for a 32-24 victory. Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt threw a game-ending interception in the final minute, ending LSU’s shot at forcing overtime. Kiffin looked like he wanted to hide under a rock after watching Leavitt throw the game away.

After the game, ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge asked Golding how satisfying the win felt for him and the Ole Miss fan base.
“I think Glenn Boyce and Keith Carter might have a beer tonight. I know that,” Golding said.

The two men Golding mentioned were Ole Miss’ chancellor and athletic director, respectively. Both men had to endure the months-long saga that was Kiffin’s messy exit from the program to join LSU.
The beers may very well be free-flowing all night for Boyce, Carter, and Golding after embarrassing Kiffin on his former home field.
