A young quarterback with a famous last name has to decided to seek greener pastures.
JT Kitna, the son of former NFL quarterback Jon Kitna, announced via social media on Wednesday that he is entering the transfer portal. JT enrolled at Bowling Green University this past January but will now be transferring with four years of eligibility still left.
A three-star recruit at Lakota East High School in Township, Ohio, JT never appeared in a game for Bowling Green but did go through spring practice with them. As he noted in his decision post, he has good size for a QB at nearly 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds.
JT’s father Jon, now 52 years old, had a 14-season career in the NFL from 1997-2011, including many years as a starting quarterback. After starting off with the Seattle Seahawks, Jon won NFL Comeback Player of the Year as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2003 season. He also later played for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys before retiring.
Interestingly enough, Jon also has another football-playing son. Jalen Kitna, JT’s older brother, played quarterback for Florida before later ending up at UAB (though Jalen is best known for a disturbing legal case he had in the past).
As for JT himself, he cited the staff change at Bowling Green as an apparent consideration in his transfer decision. That was in reference to Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler recently leaving the program and being replaced by a well-known former Heisman Trophy winner.
