Tate Martell trash talked fellow A&M QB commit Nick Starkel on Twitter
Tate Martell decommitted from Texas A&M this week, setting off a mini firestorm for the program and its coaching staff. Less than two days later, we’re seeing some more fallout.
Nick Starkel, a 2016 Aggies QB recruit, posted a screenshot on Twitter of a direct message conversation showing Martell talking trash about him.
It’s unknown who Martell had the direct message (and therefore private) exchange with, but it was someone who was urging the 2017 QB to decommit from Texas A&M. Martell said he was sticking with his commitment because he believed he could start there as a true freshman, calling Starkel not very good in colorful terms.
Martell’s decommitment also caused Texas A&M WR coach Aaron Moorehead to go on a Twitter rant for which he later apologized.
I honestly don’t blame Martell for this. One, this was a private conversation that someone leaked. Two, it’s not like he said anything too ridiculous. Shouldn’t he be confident in himself and his ability to start as a true freshman? That’s not the worst thing in the world to think. He just needs to be careful about the people he’s messaging with.
