Report: Tom Herman, Chad Morris top targets for Baylor job

Tom Herman Houston

The Baylor Bears are reportedly stepping up their coaching search, and have two top candidates in mind.

Houston coach Tom Herman and SMU coach Chad Morris are at or near the top of Baylor’s list of potential hires, according to Travis Haney of 247 Sports.

Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades hired Herman at Houston, so there is a connection there. However, the Cougars coach will be in very high demand. He is said to be most intrigued by the potential opening at Texas, and also has his sights on LSU and Oregon. Nevertheless, Baylor is determined to at least speak to Herman about their opening.

Failing that, the Bears could target Morris, an east Texas native with extensive links within the state as a former high school coach. He is also the former offensive coordinator at Clemson and was chiefly responsible for recruiting Deshaun Watson.

There is another, even higher profile candidate that Baylor has reportedly eyed, but that one may prove to be too much of a longshot.
