UCLA QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson replaced after suffering foot/ankle injury
UCLA Bruins quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was replaced by Austin Burton after suffering an injury late in the third quarter of the team’s 20-17 loss to the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday night.
Thompson-Robinson was trying to avoid pressure and threw a ball away on first down with just under a minute remaining in the third quarter. He was tackled as he threw the ball and had his left foot/ankle bent awkwardly against the ground.

Thompson-Robinson was in pain and helped up by the trainers. He tried to walk it off but went to the ground after reaching the sideline, and Burton entered the game. UCLA was able to score after two straight handoffs to Joshua Kelley to take a 17-13 lead. However, they lost the lead after giving up a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Then kicker J.J. Molson missed a potential tying 39-yard field goal after being iced by Kevin Sumlin.
Thompson-Robinson, a sophomore, was 17/33 for 180 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 63 yards. He was coming off the best game of his career — a 507-yard, five touchdown performance in a comeback win over Washington State.
Burton went 5/9 for 48 yards and generally made good decisions with the football even if he did not display overwhelming arm strength.
UCLA fell to 1-4 with the loss, while Arizona improved to 3-1 and was able to win despite not having starting quarterback Khalil Tate or running back J.J. Taylor available.
