Urban Meyer hints that JT Barrett is leading Ohio State starting quarterback competition
Urban Meyer likes to conceal his plans from the media and even went as far as to deny Braxton Miller was switching positions when the story first went public. But he may have tipped his hand regarding his plans for his starting quarterback.
Meyer spoke at Big Ten Media Days on Thursday and was asked about Ohio State’s starting QB competition, which is between J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones now that Miller is switching to H-Back. Meyer responded by saying the Buckeyes keep track of everything and have even been grading the players based on leadership displayed over the summer.
Urban Meyer on QB battle: “We are basically keeping score of everything.” He said that includes leadership, weightlifting, academics.

And guess which player has stood out regarding leadership displayed?
Urban Meyer: JT Barrett’s leadership is “off the charts right now” Cardale Jones “It’s getting better.” Looking like Barrett to us.

Barrett leading the QB competition thus far should not be a big surprise. Remember that he beat out Jones for the starting job last year and only was replaced because of injury. However, we all know based on his play in the final three games of the season that Jones shines in big games. Maybe he will begin to tip things in his favor when camp opens.
If Barrett indeed is leading the competition, then that means things would be going against how the sophomore’s dad thought they should go.
