Video shows Vanderbilt goal posts being retrieved from river

Vanderbilt goal posts are recovered from a river

Vanderbilt lost the goal posts from one of their end zones following their huge upset win over Alabama on Saturday night, but the hardware has been recovered.

The Commodores stunned the college football world with their 40-35 win over Alabama on Saturday night at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. After the game, Vanderbilt students and fans stormed the field and tore down the goal posts. They then tossed them into the Cumberland River. You can see the video here.

Vanderbilt has already been fined $100,000 by the SEC for the behavior of their fans. School administrators probably are not all that concerned about that, however.

During Nick Saban’s 17-year run as Alabama’s head coach, Vanderbilt only scored a combined total of 13 points across four contests against the Tide. They had lost their previous three outings against Alabama by a cumulative score of 148-3. Despite Saban’s success, the former coach was savagely trolled with a stadium videoboard graphic on Saturday.

Vanderbilt fans likely never imagined seeing the local fire department salvaging their goal posts from the Cumberland River, but crazy stuff can happen after a once-in-a-lifetime upset win.
