Report: Will Muschamp to South Carolina a done deal after Rich Rodriguez pursuit fails
Will Muschamp will be the next coach of South Carolina, according to reports.
ESPN’s Joe Schad tweeted Sunday morning that Muschamp to South Carolina is a done deal.
Interestingly, Muschamp does not appear to have been the team’s first choice, with Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne revealing that Rich Rodriguez had an offer from the Gamecocks, but turned it down.
Great news! @CoachRodAZ did not commit to the offer from S. Carolina. He's an Arizona Wildcat. #BearDown

Muschamp was considered a leading contender for the job from the get-go, with him going as far as to reach out to Marcus Lattimore about a hypothetical staff role. He spent last season as defensive coordinator at Auburn following a four year stint in charge at Florida, during which he went 28-21 with a Sugar Bowl appearance.
