Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen revealed this week that he deleted Twitter from his phone after putting up a dud against Oregon last weekend.
Allen entered the season in contention to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL draft. After poor showings against Iowa and then Oregon, his draft stock may have slipped.
He doesn’t really want to hear about it, which is why he got rid of Twitter.
“Those guys on Twitter aren’t making draft picks and putting together teams in the NFL,” Allen told the Associated Press in a profile about him. “All I really care about is respect from my teammates and my coaches here.”
Allen’s Cowboys are 1-2 after faltering in their ambitious non-conference schedule. The rest of the schedule should get much friendlier with the team playing mostly conference opponents in Mountain West play. Accordingly, Allen should fare much better. Will he bring back Twitter at that point? Who knows. But after seeing what happened with a star athlete this week, it might be best to just avoid it entirely.
