Justin Durant would eat Chick-fil-A even if it supported slavery

Some folks love their Chick-fil-A so much they wouldn’t let anything stop them from eating it. Take Lions linebacker Justin Durant for example. The former second-round pick said on Twitter he’d still eat Chick-fil-A even if the restaurant’s owners supported slavery.

Durant began the Chick-fil-A conversation on Wednesday by asking his Twitter followers what the situation was with the restaurant:

What happened w/ Chick-Fil-A?

— Justin Durant (@JDurant52) August 1, 2012

Once he learned that Chick-fil-A’s CEO spoke out against gay marriage, he started saying that wouldn’t keep him from enjoying the restaurant’s food:

Chick-Fil-A not even open on Sunday how people shocked that the owner feels that way?

— Justin Durant (@JDurant52) August 1, 2012

So people not gon get the best chicken sammich and lemonade on the planet because of a personal belief? Word?

— Justin Durant (@JDurant52) August 1, 2012

Idk maybe it’s just me but I could care less about what people choose to believe in as long as I’m good

— Justin Durant (@JDurant52) August 1, 2012

Chicken too tasty RT @thatstatboy: @jdurant52 Would you boycott Chick Fil A if the owner came out and said slavery was a good idea?

— Justin Durant (@JDurant52) August 1, 2012

It’s that last tweet that grabbed everyone’s attention. While it’s Durant and any person’s right to eat where they want, many people felt the slavery part went too far.

Durant claimed on Friday he was just joking after his tweets began receiving so much attention. Maybe he was just trying to prove a point that a company or person’s personal beliefs should not affect a customer’s decision.

Just like Durant has the right to express his opinion, others have the right to express theirs and boycott Chick-fil-A if they choose. I just hope that nobody would support slavery under any circumstances, and I think saying that, even if it were a joke, is disrespectful to anyone who experienced slavery.
