Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancee of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, could play a major role in the investigation and trial surrounding the murder of Odin Lloyd. In fact, she already has. And that could be a very bad thing for her.
According to the Boston Globe, Jenkins is facing charges of lying to a grand jury 29 times. Prosecutors claim that Jenkins lied about conversations she had with Hernandez on June 18, including one in which he allegedly called her from his lawyer’s office and told her to remove items from his home.
As we previously shared with you, Jenkins has reportedly been seen on surveillance footage carrying a trash bag out of Hernandez’s basement and putting it in the trunk of her car. She is said to have returned 35 minutes later without the bag. Prosecutors claim Jenkins has since lied about why she removed the items, what the items were, and how she disposed of them.
As Pro Football Talk speculated, the prosecution’s goal could be to get Hernandez to agree to some sort of deal that would keep Jenkins, who is the mother of his child, out of prison. Or, perhaps Jenkins will be willing to provide crucial information that could incriminate Hernandez when she realizes the ramifications of the charges that are expected to be brought against her.
