Adrian Peterson has sights set on 2,000 rushing yards this season

Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson proved that he still has plenty left in the tank when he rushed for over 1,000 yards with the Washington Redskins last season, but that isn’t even close to enough as far as he is concerned.

Speaking with Tom Pelissero of NFL Network at minicamp on Tuesday, Peterson said he is aiming to do something in 2019 that has only been done seven times before in NFL history — once by himself.

“I got my mark set at 2,000 (yards), I’ve always had it at that mark since I stepped into the league,” Peterson said, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “So that’s where it’s at. But most importantly, I just want to contribute to the team and help this team win a championship.”

Peterson rushing for 2,097 yards in 2012 was one of the most remarkable feats in NFL history, especially since he did it a year after tearing his ACL. While doubting him has made people look bad numerous times, he turned 34 in March and dealt with some injuries prior to appearing in all 16 games in Washington last season. Eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark again will be virtually impossible.

The previous goal that Peterson set for himself may be slightly more realistic, but things would have to go perfectly for him to even accomplish that. If he can rush for over 1,000 yards again, the Redskins will be thrilled.
