Ahmad Brooks disses Rams QB Austin Davis
Did San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks really record two sacks on Monday night and have no idea who he was taking down? After his team’s 31-17 win over the St. Louis Rams, Brooks was asked for his thoughts on Austin Davis.
“That’s the quarterback, right?” Brooks asked, as seen on a CSNBayArea.com locker room video. “Because you asked me earlier — no disrespect, but I didn’t know who you were talking about. You know what I’m saying?”
Davis, a second-year quarterback out of Southern Mississippi, played very well in three games prior to Monday night. He looked incredibly sharp in the first quarter against the Niners but tailed off after that. Davis threw for 375 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions the week before and nearly led his team to a comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles. We’re supposed to believe Brooks didn’t study any film from that game?
“He did a great job,” Brooks added. “That’s an excellent job, for a quarterback especially, to go out there — what year is it for him, rookie? (Brooks is then told Davis is in his second year) For a second year guy, a quarterback, to go out there and play the way he did is amazing. He’s only gonna get better.”
Brooks has never been a guy who is afraid to speak his mind, but we can’t help but think he was playing mind games with Davis on Monday. The Niners got the best of Davis in the second half and erased an early 14-0 deficit. They play the Rams again in just a few weeks, so maybe Brooks is trying to get in Davis’ head before their next meeting.
