Report: Andrew Luck still several weeks away from being game-ready
The Indianapolis Colts have been tight-lipped regarding the status of Andrew Luck, but now we have a good idea of how much time he might miss.
Luck is not playing in the Colts’ opener on Sunday as he recovers from a January shoulder surgery. The team did not put Luck on the PUP list to start the season, which would have prevented him from practicing with the team for six weeks, indicated they expected him to return at some point before then.
Now CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that Luck is several weeks away from being game-ready, even though he is getting closer to being cleared to practice.
According to La Canfora, Luck is nearing completion of a program designed to rebuild strength in his shoulder, though he has not yet entered the intensive throwing portion of the program.
Luck is expected to need several weeks of practice to be ready for games. La Canfora says it would be hard to expect him to be ready to play this month, which would result in him missing three regular season games.
Colts owner Jim Irsay has said that the team is taking a long-term approach with Luck and has no plans to rush him back. After delaying shoulder surgery for two years, the Colts are finally taking their time with Luck.
