Andy Reid has funny response to retirement question
With a whole array of legendary coaches stepping away from or being pushed out of their jobs over the last 48 hours, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid inevitably faced the same question on Thursday.
Reid was asked during his press conference whether he had given any thought to retirement. The Chiefs coach was quick to brush the idea aside, pointing out that he still has a few years on his counterparts.
“I haven’t even thought about that. I’m thinking about one thing,” Reid told reporters, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions because I’m old — but, not that old.”
Reid has a point. He turns 66 in March. Nick Saban and Pete Carroll are both 72, while Bill Belichick turns 72 in April.
Prior to last year’s Super Bowl, a report surfaced suggesting Reid could think about retiring if the Chiefs won it all. The team did, but he made it quite clear he was not going anywhere. That still appears to hold true now.
