Las Vegas Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce remains in the running for the permanent head coaching job. He is even leaning on some highly-experienced names to try and help him get the gig.
Pierce remains in the mix for the permanent job, and has called on his former coach Tom Coughlin to advise him in recent weeks, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Former Dolphins and Jets coach Adam Gase and longtime Bengals coach Marvin Lewis have also been called on to give Pierce guidance.
Raiders owner Mark Davis is still planning a full head coaching search at the end of the season, and Pierce is expected to be a candidate. His lack of experience may be a problem for him, but he clearly has a passion for the Raiders. He also appears to have the backing of a number of players. Thursday’s 63-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers probably does not hurt either.
Pierce took over as the Raiders’ interim coach after Josh McDaniels was fired on Oct. 31. The Raiders have gone 3-3 since then.
