Ben McAdoo concerned about Giants ‘going numb’
The New York Giants would have to overcome incredible odds to reach the postseason now that they have lost their first four games, and their head coach is concerned that his players could pack it in.
In a conference call with reporters on Monday, Ben McAdoo said the Giants have the talent to dig themselves out of a hole but admitted he worries about the team “going numb.”
“It’s fight-or-flight time,” McAdoo said, per James Kratch of NJ.com. “We have talented men of integrity in the locker room. It’s not going to be easy. But we have to go out there and we have to fight. I expect us to fight. We have character in the building, upstairs and down. I expect us to go out there and fight.
“The biggest thing I get concerned about is just guys going numb. We can’t go numb. We can never accept this. You’ve got to fight through it. You’ve got to work for that first one. Work for the first win.”
The Giants were expected to have a solid defense this year, and the sky was seemingly the limit for their offense after they added Brandon Marshall to a receiving corps that includes superstar Odell Beckham Jr. and breakout candidate Sterling Shepard. Needless to say, the team is in a tailspin after a brutal 25-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
“It’s hard to win in this league,” McAdoo added. “When things aren’t going well, you have to dot your I’s and cross your T’s, and you have to play fundamentally sound football. We haven’t done that. It’s no reflection of the team. It’s just not surprising when things aren’t going well that you really have to buckle down.”
Most of the players in New York’s locker room would probably echo the statements recently made by Beckham. The only thing the G-Men can do now is try to make history.
