Bobby Wagner received NFL MVP vote

Bobby Wagner

Aaron Rodgers was named AP NFL MVP for the second time in his career in a vote that yielded a few controversies, including one shocker.

Rodgers received 31 of the 50 possible votes, while Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt, who many felt deserved the award, finished second with 13 votes. Dallas Cowboys teammates Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray both received two votes, Tom Brady received one, and then there was the big head-scratcher: Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner received a vote.

Do we even need to establish how insane that is?

Wagner is an excellent player on the best defense in the league, but most people don’t believe he’s the most valuable player on his own defense. Richard Sherman or Earl Thomas probably are, and you could even make a good case for Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett or K.J. Wright too. So not only is Wagner possibly not even the most valuable player on his own defense let alone the entire league, but you also have to factor in that he only played 11 of 16 games. You better be Superman in those games to deserve an MVP vote.

Wagner was great when he played and really got back on track when he returned in Week 12. I don’t want to knock him because he is a great player. But he had no business receiving an MVP vote, and the person who did cast one in his favor has some ‘splaining to do.
