Brandon Browner facing one-year suspension, Seahawks career over

Brandon BrownerBrandon Browner is facing a one-year suspension for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, and his career with the Seattle Seahawks is over, according to a report.

Browner, who has been an excellent defensive back for Seattle since 2011, missed the last four games of the season last year for violating the league’s PED policy. Browner would have failed multiple tests to be facing a one-year suspension now.

NFL Network’s Albert Breer says Browner will appeal his suspension.

Browner injured his groin in Week 10 and missed the team’s Week 11 win over the Minnesota Vikings, so the team was already prepared to be without him for possibly the rest of the season. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week that he expected Browner to miss 4-6 weeks.

Not only is Browner out for the year, but cornerback Walter Thurmond III is also out for the next four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Thurmond is expected to drop his appeal so he can return for the playoffs.

One of the most significant developments to this situation is that NFL Network’s Mike Silver says Browner’s career with the Seahawks is over.

Seattle has quickly gone from having strong cornerbacks to being short on depth. They still have Richard Sherman and safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, but they’re now much weaker at corner.
