Report: Broncos offer to Brock Osweiler is higher than $12 million

Brock Osweiler

We are getting some reported details on the financial package that the Denver Broncos have offered Brock Osweiler.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Broncos have offered Osweiler a “competitive” deal that is said to be more than the $12,27 million salary that Nick Foles is making. It’s unclear how much higher that is, but bear in mind another recent report stated that Denver was unwilling to give Osweiler the $16 million salary regarded as the baseline for NFL starting quarterbacks. For that reason, perhaps, while there is an offer, Osweiler and the Broncos do not have an agreement.

Renck also notes that the Broncos have, for all intents and purposes, moved on from Peyton Manning. The team didn’t even request him to take a physical before Friday’s deadline, and it’s almost certain that, with no decision on his retirement coming before the deadline, Manning will get an amicable release before his 2016 salary kicks in. The deadline for that to happen is Tuesday. Manning sounds like a guy who intends to continue playing somewhere, but it won’t be in Denver.

As for Osweiler, his future remains unclear due to the apparent disparity between Denver’s offer and Osweiler’s demands. He may want to test the market and the Broncos are willing to let him, though they’ve reportedly made him a substantial offer. If he does hit free agency, he’ll likely have at least one suitor aside from Denver.
