Calvin Ridley says his catch disparity made the Alabama WR room awkward

Calvin Ridley

Calvin Ridley had 46 more catches than any of his other teammates for the Alabama Crimson Tide last season, and he admitted Friday that it made things a little bit awkward with his teammates.

Ridley, arguably the top receiver in this year’s NFL Draft, led Alabama with 63 catches in 2017, while running back Bo Scarbrough came in behind him with just 17. He admitted that it occasionally made things a bit weird with his teammates.

“Sometimes, yeah because some of the guys made comments, throw up the charts,” Ridley said, via Michael Casagrande of AL.com. “Everybody would have like five catches and I had like 50. It’s just kinda weird. I wish we all had the same amount but we won the championship. And everybody was happy.”

The topic of Ridley’s dominance came up when discussing his teammate Robert Foster, who had an underwhelming senior season with Alabama.

“I mean, we had a lot going on,” Ridley said. “The way we had things, I got the ball a lot more than the other guys. It was a weird situation but I definitely think he’s a great receiver and he’s going to improve.”

One of Ridley’s Alabama teammates may want to have an argument about who the best receiver on the team was, but the catch totals don’t lie. You can understand that there might be a little bit of discontent with how the ball was being spread around with numbers like that.
