Cam Newton is so confused by Ron Rivera’s odd practice tactic
Cam Newton has missed the Carolina Panthers’ last few practices since injuring his foot during a preseason game on Thursday night, and he can’t believe what’s transpired without him.
On Sunday, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera put on some boxing gloves for a ball security drill with his running backs. Newton shared a photo in his Instagram Story of Rivera with the boxing gloves on and added funny commentary.

“ok I haven’t been at practice these last couple days for obvious reasons. But ummmm… WTF is going on out there!?” he asked. Newton then joked that River had “turned things up I see.”
There’s a reason they call him “Riverboat Ron.” He’s a coach willing to take chances and try crazy things, such as using boxing gloves to try knocking balls out. And in case you’re wondering, the Panthers did not lose any fumbles in their most recent preseason game. Rivera knows why. Newton will probably happily take those results.
As for Newton’s status, he has a foot sprain, and the Panthers have indicated the injury is not serious.
