Cardinals, Jets may have chased Drew Brees had he left New Orleans

Drew-Brees

Drew Brees’s representatives reportedly got to the point of canvassing the NFL for potential options should the quarterback’s contract expire, and they had some targets in mind.

With Brees’s deal due to expire next March and contract talks having stalled out with the Saints, the quarterback’s reps singled out the Arizona Cardinals as a potential landing spot, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

The New York Jets could have had interest as well, and some executives believed Miami would have looked into signing the veteran. The Denver Broncos could also have been involved depending on how things go with Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian in 2016.

Ultimately, though, Brees stayed with the Saints, though it was a pretty close call given his stated refusal to negotiate during the season. Many believed that the two sides would ultimately get something done, but the fact that Brees was eyeing potential outside options tells you there was at least some fear that he was about to play his final season in New Orleans.
