Chargers may keep limiting Melvin Gordon in Week 5
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon got a full week of practice ahead of their Week 5 game against the Denver Broncos, but it may not mean a huge role for him.
Chargers coach Anthony Lynn suggested that he was wary of playing Gordon too much, and was pleased with the contributions the team has received from running back Austin Ekeler.
Anthony Lynn on Melvin Gordon’s role for Sunday: “I don’t want to put him in there and play him too much, and I really don’t have to. I like what Austin Ekeler has been doing.” #Chargers

Lynn makes a fine point about Ekeler, who has surpassed 100 total yards in three of his four games so far this season. It has allowed him to establish himself as a legitimate starting-quality running back, and has made him hard to dislodge, even with all of Gordon’s accomplishments. It seems as if Gordon’s holdout may cost him more than money, as Ekeler will keep getting playing time as long as he keeps performing.
