The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to move around some money to create salary cap flexibility, and they have successfully done so.
The Chiefs and offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif agreed to a restructured contract, Yahoo’s Terez Paylor reported on Wednesday.
Duvernay-Tardif signed a 5-year, $42.3 million contract with Kansas City three years ago that went into effect for the 2018 season. He had three years and $20.3 million remaining on his deal. The Chiefs could have cut him for $4 million in dead cap space, per Spotrac.
An undrafted free agent, Duvernay-Tardif played in 14 games last season and five the year before due to a leg injury. The right guard became the first medical school graduate to win a Super Bowl when the Chiefs beat the 49ers earlier this year.
