Chip Kelly: 49ers looking at ‘every option’ at QB

The San Francisco 49ers could be making a change at quarterback for Week 6, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Colin Kaepernick is going to start.

In his weekly appearance on KNBR Monday, Kelly did not commit to sticking with Blaine Gabbert when his team takes on the Buffalo Bills. However, he said the coaching staff is exploring “every option.”

#49ers Chip Kelly (to KNBR) on who'll QB vs #Bills: We'll get together as a staff today, look at a game plan. We're looking at every option.

The common belief has been that Kaepernick is the next man in line behind Gabbert, but a report from over the weekend indicated that some within the 49ers locker room think Christian Ponder could be the best option.

Kelly tried his best to stand behind Gabbert, but the numbers don’t lie. Gabbert has not been good through the first five games, and he is a big reason the Niners are 1-4. While there have been some questions about whether Kaepernick is healthy enough to start, reports like this one make it seem like Kelly is going to be forced into making a change. Don’t be surprised if that change comes in Week 6.
