CJ Anderson says it would be ‘huge’ if Broncos landed Kirk Cousins
The Broncos are in search of an upgrade at the quarterback position this offseason, and Kirk Cousins is the one name that seems to keep coming up. C.J. Anderson is among the players in Denver who understand why.
In an appearance on NFL Network Wednesday, Anderson was asked about the potential of Cousins winding up with the Broncos now that the Washington Redskins have traded for Alex Smith.
“It would be huge having a guy like Kirk, a veteran guy who’s been through it. It would be huge to come to us, a veteran team,” Anderson said. “We know some pieces are going to change, but if we can keep some of the pieces on our offensive end — myself, [wideout] Emmanuel [Sanders], DT [wideout Demaryius Thomas] and bring in Kirk Cousins — our offense can be what we want it to be for the future.”
One of the hosts then mentioned how it seems like the Broncos are a good quarterback away from competing, and Anderson agreed.
“Oh yeah, most definitely,” he said. “If [John] Elway can make it happen … We need to find a way to make that happen.”
It probably doesn’t feel good to hear things like that if you’re Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch, but the results speak for themselves. Poor quarterback play has plagued the Broncos over the past two seasons, and their best defensive player made similar remarks about Cousins this week. Elway hasn’t been able to find a viable starting QB in the draft, so signing Cousins may be the best thing he can do for the team.
