Colt McCoy out for season with fractured fibula

Colt McCoy

Colt McCoy is out for the season after suffering a fractured fibula on Monday night.

McCoy injured his right leg after slipping while trying to scramble late in the first quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles. His right leg whipped around and smacked the leg of Malcolm Jenkins, with McCoy getting the worst end of it.

Despite being in pain, McCoy finished the field goal drive for Washington before determining he could no longer play. The veteran quarterback left the field to undergo X-rays, which showed he had a fractured fibula. He was replaced by Mark Sanchez.

The injury comes as a major disappointment for McCoy. He is in his ninth NFL season but prior to this year had only played in seven games since joining the Redskins in 2014. With Alex Smith out for the season, this was McCoy’s chance to show what he could do, but he got injured in just his second start of the season.
