Colts sticking with Adam Vinatieri despite continued struggles

Adam Vinatieri

Adam Vinatieri is having a disaster of a season as his nears his 47th birthday, but the Indianapolis Colts are not wavering on their confidence in him.

Speaking with the media Wednesday, Colts head coach Frank Reich indicated that the team would continue to stick with Vinatieri, calling him “our guy.”

“We have confidence in Adam,” said Reich, per Mike Wells of ESPN. “He’s not just our kicker, he’s a leader on our team — a captain, a presence. This is important. We feel like we need him going forward and have the utmost confidence in him.”

Vinatieri, who is in his 24th NFL campaign, has missed a total of 11 kicks this season (five field goals and six extra points). That includes misses on two potential game-winning field goal attempts in contests that the 5-4 Colts ultimately wound up losing.

The team actually worked out other kickers earlier this week, but it looks like they will allow the three-time Pro Bowler to continue working through his struggles, at least for now.
