The Dallas Cowboys still have not worked out a contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott with OTAs underway. Interestingly, Prescott appears to be quite content with that reality.

Prescott spoke about his contract situation on Wednesday and sounded quite relaxed about whether something will get done. The quarterback said he was focused on controlling only what he could control, and asserted that he was not playing the game for money.

“I don’t play for money. … I’ll leave that to the business people to say what it’s worth, what they’re supposed to give a quarterback of my play,” Prescott said. “It’s about controlling what I can control. Handle that part and everything else will take care of itself.”

Prescott keeps saying the right things, but the lack of urgency in his words is interesting. He is due $34 million this year, but is entering the final year of his contract. In addition, quarterbacks around the league are signing deals worth a lot more money, so if Prescott wanted to be aggressive, he could push for a big raise.

Prescott is currently carrying a cap hit of over $55 million for 2024. He has a lot of leverage over the Cowboys right now, and it may be that his agents are using it.
