Danny Amendola leaves game with head injury
Danny Amendola left Thursday night’s season-opening game between his Patriots and the Chiefs with a head injury.
NBC’s Michele Tafoya provided details saying that Amendola left the game about five minutes into the fourth quarter and was followed by a neuro-trauma official into the locker room. He was later ruled out of the game, indicating he was in concussion protocol.
NBC speculated that Amendola’s injury happened on a punt return when his head met the knee of Frank Zombo.
The New England wide receiver also took a hard hit earlier in the game:

According to Tafoya, Amendola previously had two known concussions in his career.
The Patriots are already without Julian Edelman for the season, while Malcolm Mitchell is on IR. They would be in a really tough spot if it’s ruled that Amendola suffered a concussion in the game. (update: he later was determined to have a concussion).
Amendola was leading the team with six catches for 100 yards prior to his head injury.
