A former six-time Pro Bowl selection officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday.
Cornerback Darius Slay posted on Instagram that he is stepping away from the NFL after 13 seasons.
“This game put me in a position to help take care of my family and loved ones and I’m forever grateful,” Slay wrote on Instagram. “It’s hard to say goodbye, but God has a new chapter for me and I’m ready to turn the page and start my new journey.”
In his prime, Slay was one of the game’s best corners. He made six Pro Bowls, three each with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. He won his only Super Bowl with Philadelphia in 2024, and was an All-Pro with the Lions in 2017.
Slay spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but struggled and was released in December. He had the opportunity to catch on with the Buffalo Bills, but chose not to report, citing family reasons. At that point, retirement started to look increasingly likely.
During his career, Slay collected 655 total tackles and 48 interceptions. He led the league with eight picks in 2017 to go along with 26 passes defended that season.
