There is a growing sense of belief that Darrelle Revis will be returning to the New York Jets this upcoming season.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the sense in New England is that Revis is headed back to New York. Schefter notes that the Patriots will still make a final push for Revis, as no deal had been finalized at the start of the new league year.
It was a well-known fact that the Jets were going to be aggressive in pursuing Revis. After the Patriots re-signed Devin McCourty, the veteran safety said he believed Revis would return to the team as long as he got a contract similar to the $47.5 million ($28 million guaranteed) that McCourty got.
We highly doubt the Patriots would shy away from paying Revis the same amount they gave McCourty. If Revis does sign with the Jets, the offers probably weren’t close.
However, it is worth noting that the Patriots also declined to pick up Brandon Browner’s $5.5 million option. Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com speculates that New England could use that money to up its offer for Revis.
Browner option not picked up adds to feeling his dough was needed for final Revis push.
