Demaryius Thomas pleads guilty to careless driving in vehicular assault case
Demaryius Thomas was involved in a rollover accident in Denver last month, and he found himself in trouble with the law because of it. On Wednesday, he reached a deal with prosecutors after facing some serious charges.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Thomas agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of careless driving in exchange for having a felony charge of vehicular assault dropped. He was facing up to three years in prison if convicted of the felony but will now only have to serve a one-year probation and 50 hours of community service.
Thomas was driving at a speed of around 70 mph in a 30-mph zone, which is fast enough to be charged with vehicular assault. There were two other passengers in the car, and both were transported to the hospital with one suffering serious injuries. Police said that neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be a factor in the accident.
Thomas last played for the Houston Texans. He tore his Achilles on Dec. 23 and missed the rest of the season and playoffs. The Texans released him earlier this offseason, and he currently remains a free agent.
