Deshaun Watson revealed that he felt the same way as Todd Monken about what former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said about the Cleveland Browns.
It can be recalled that Tomlin, who now works for NBC, took a shot at his former AFC North rivals by saying “the Browns is the Browns” following Cleveland’s Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Sunday, Monken dropped the mic in response to Tomlin’s comment.
“Browns are gonna Browns – f– that, okay?” Monken said after the Browns defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 23-19, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
“The guys took that to heart,” added Monken, who is in his first season as Browns head coach.
Watson also had something to say about Monken’s response to Tomlin.
“Monk said what he said. That’s how we all felt,” a smiling Watson told reporters after Cleveland’s win over Tampa Bay, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
If anything, Tomlin just gave Watson and the Browns bulletin-board material, and Cleveland responded with positive results. Watson passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 24/30 completions against the Buccaneers, as the Browns won their first game under Monken’s watch.
The win against Tampa Bay also gives the Browns momentum heading into their season home debut in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
