Devonta Freeman: Dodging a bullet is a distraction, not contract talk
Devonta Freeman has taken some heat over the past week for choosing to talk about his contract situation when his team is preparing for the Super Bowl, but the Falcons running back insists his comments about wanting to get paid have not created an issue.
When asked on Wednesday if he believes talking contract could be a distraction, Freeman spoke about growing up in a tough neighborhood and having to worry about being shot at.
Freeman:"Where I come from, where I grew up, I could be playing in the middle of the field… a shoot out might start…that's distraction." pic.twitter.com/idtr0m7i8E

Freeman’s preparation may not be affected by talking about his contract situation, but the timing does seem a bit inappropriate. While it was really his agents that said it is time for the Falcons to pay the 24-year-old, Freeman is the one who admitted he is having a tough time splitting carries.
Atlanta’s running back duo of Freeman and Tevin Coleman could be their biggest matchup advantage over the New England Patriots. Freeman should embrace sharing a backfield at the moment because it gives his team its best chance of winning a Super Bowl.
