Report: Dolphins nearing trade for Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, releasing Brent Grimes
The Miami Dolphins are reportedly on the verge of having a very busy Monday.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are working on a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that would send linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami in exchange for draft picks.

In what may be a related move to clear cap space, the Dolphins are expected to release cornerback Brent Grimes in the coming days, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel. Grimes is a Pro Bowler who is also known for the fact that his wife is not a big Ryan Tannehill fan.
It’s the continuation of an effort to essentially clean up the mistakes of the Chip Kelly regime. Maxwell and Alonso were both high-profile acquisitions by Kelly prior to the 2015 season. Alonso was the return when the Eagles traded LeSean McCoy to Buffalo, while Maxwell was a huge disappointment after signing a six year, $64 million deal with Philadelphia. Given the lack of production and salaries in play, it seems at first glance like Miami is doing the Eagles quite the favor here.
