Dwayne Haskins will have opportunity to start for Washington
The Washington Redskins did not select Dwayne Haskins in the NFL Draft with the intention of sitting him on the bench.
Coach Jay Gruden said Friday that Haskins will be given every opportunity to win the team’s starting job, which had previously seen veteran Colt McCoy in the pole position.
While the Giants are planning to have Daniel Jones back up Eli Manning, the Redskins will give Dwayne Haskins the chance to compete for the starting job right away. “I think you have to give him an opportunity without a doubt,” said Washington HC Jay Gruden.

Haskins, the 15th overall pick, immediately becomes the quarterback of the future in Washington. He may well be the quarterback of the present, too. Gruden made clear well before the draft that any quarterback drafted would be expected to contribute immediately, and that expectation will fall on Haskins immediately.
